Take me to....
First to see the sun each day the region is rugged, packed with history and very different. Youll love the East Cape with its big, empty beaches, rolling surf and spectacular countryside. As you visit some of the small rural towns you will feel the years rolling back.
Dont miss Tologa Bay with its long wharf and the drama of nearby Cooks Cove, or the incredible vista from Cooks Plaza above the city of Gisborne.
This is one of the wine regions of New Zealand too, renowned for its fine Chardonnays.
Other Rural East Cape
The 46 kilometre Lake Waikaremoana Track is located in the Te Urewera National Park. It is a three to four day tramping track of moderate difficulty.
The majority of the track follows the lakeshore and is a moderately easy walk. Magnificent forested scenery and plenty of opportunity for swimming and fishing are features of the walk.
Note: Check the DoC website for more detail. Detail contained on TrueNZ Guides website for this walking track is only meant as a summary.
