The Routeburn Track is a 32 kilometre, two to three day, moderate-level tramping track. It which links the National Parks of Mount Aspiring and Fiordland via the Harris Saddle.
Features of the track include waterfalls, forested valleys, open alpine tops, rich birdlife, lakes and spectacular mountain scenery. The track traverses part of Te Wahipounamu - Southwest New Zealand World Heritage Area.
Over the summer it is one of New Zealand's most popular tramping tracks. During winter and spring, it becomes an alpine crossing; impassable without alpine experience. At times there is high avalanche danger. Sections of the track, however, are still suitable for daywalks.
Note: Check the DoC website for more detail. Detail contained on TrueNZ Guides website for this walking track is only meant as a summary.
